Raygun, the Australian breakdancer who captured attention with her distinctive moves during the debut of breaking at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has responded to critics following her recent performances.

In an interview with ESPN published on Saturday, August 10, the 36-year-old competitor, whose real name is Rachael Gunn, addressed the backlash she received on social media after her three round robin-style battles on Friday. Despite losing all three matches to Team USA’s b-girl Logistx, 21, France’s Syssy, 16, and Lithuania’s Nicka, 17, Raygun remained unfazed.

“I was never going to beat these girls on what they do best — their power moves,” Raygun stated. “What I bring is creativity.”

Outside of her breakdancing career, Raygun is a university lecturer in Sydney and has a background in jazz and ballroom dance. Her academic work, as noted in her biography on Macquarie University’s website, includes studying the cultural politics of breaking.
